Duo Concertant

In the mid-19th century, musical life in Europe was dominated by the German, French and Italian culture, much to the frustration and annoyance of smaller nations that find themselves cornered.

In response to this cultural domination, a national counter-movement arose in various countries in search of their own culture and history.

This was done by harking back to the rich folklore that was present in the different regions.

With duos by Kodaly, Martinu and Glière presents Altra Follia a nice sample of composers who masterfully incorporated this folk music into their contemporary style.
