Over het evenement
The Beethoven septet in E flat major, well known to you all. Add one violin and you get Franz Schubert's Octet in F major.
At the request of the clarinet virtuoso Ferdinand Troyer for a work similar to Beethoven's Septet, Schubert composed his Octet in the spring of 1824.
Both Schubert's Octet and Beethoven's Septet are rooted in the genre of relaxed evening music in the open air. However, Schubert's masterpiece is too large-scale and too symphonic in character to be dismissed as purely entertainment
It is believed to have been written in preparation for his 9th Symphony.
The work dates from the same period as his string quartets 'Rosamunde' and 'Der Tod und das Mädchen'.
Quality at its best.
Unfortunately, this Octet never got the fame of the above works.
With our performance, we will bring this unknown pearl in the spotlight again.
